VMware en Ubuntu

He seguido ,paso a paso, las instrucciones del manual para instalar VMware Tools en Ubuntu. Todo ha ido perfecto hasta llegar al último paso que decía: Creating a new installer database using the tar3 format. Installing the content of the package. In wich directory do you want to install the binary files [/usr/bin] En este punto, he pulsado enter sin mas. Luego ha hecho otro par de preguntas y he seguido pulsando enter sin introducir ningún dato. Cuando ha llegado al final me dice: Unable to copy the source file /installer/services.sh to the destination file /etc/init.d/vmware-tools. Execution aborted. Si trato de repetir el proceso, me dice A previous installation of VMware software has been detected. Failure. Execution aborted. ¿ Por favor, podríais indicarme donde está el fallo?. He comenzado con Linux hace apenas una semana, por lo que no entiendo casi nada. ¿ Ha instalado algo? Si es así, ¿ puedo desinstalarlo para comenzar de nuevo el proceso?
